Im new and this sounds a silly question but why do I need to use oudorless thinners, Im only prcatising at the minute so if it is because of the smell thats fine , i can live with it as working on some old dolls I picked up cheap. Or is it because of some sort of hazard when mixing with genisis heat paints xx please help xxxxx
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's just because of the overpowering odor of regular thinner. You can't use something like that in a poorly ventilated area because it will impair your breathing!
I'm using turpentine for oils on Genesis paints. It does have a odor, but it's not too bad. It vaporises after baking completely, so the doll doesn't smell of turpentine later:)
Odorless or low-odor is the best. Like Mona Lisa or Loew Cornell (sp?). We use the thinners that are recommended by Genesis. They are the makers of allllll the heat-set paints. Of course you can always use the Genesis thinner. But if you use the Secrist AR paints you don't need any thinner at all so no worries. And a definate yes on the proper ventilation with others if you use them.
