Please pray for my better half.

My fiance, Rob is having surgery Thursday morning. He went to the doctor for a cold (or similar) and the x-rays indicated he was constipated....backed up. A trip to the ER, and another Dr. visit later (and a couple of different CT scans) they've found a totally unrelated issue...a mass on his adrenal gland.

My research finds that most adrenal gland masses are benign tumors, but that's not really enough to not cause worry for me.

I'm trying to NOT freak out, but I don't have enough information to be totally calm. I suppose I don't have enough info to panic, either, but hearing the word "surgery" is enough to send anyone into a tailspin.

At any rate, would those of you who pray, please do so, and if you don't please send healing thoughts and wishes his way? Thanks!

Hi Liselle, I'm sorry to hear the bad news. I will definately keep you and your better half in my prayers. Surgery sounds scary but think of it this way......they see and are going to remove it. Better to find it now than to not know at all and it get worst. Positive thoughts!

Update:

Thursday's meeting is only a consultation, but I expect surgery will be the outcome of that meeting.

I'm in limbo right now. I'm trying to figure out what to tell work, and when to tell work....I suppose I can't tell them anything till I know anything.

I am thankful that they found it now, before it might turn into something serious.

Most of what I've been reading says that adrenal gland masses turn out to be benign, so that's good news.

Thanks guys for listening to me and being here for me.

Kim, You and Rob are in my thoughts and healing prayers for Rob. My daughter Amanda is in school for medical assistant. She just told me that yes, most of those masses are benign and even if they do have to remove that adreanal gland, he has another one on the other side and that one will increase in size to accomodate the missing one. Hopefully they will be able to remove it with not issues, but if not, he still has another one :D
I know how it is to be scared about surgery. As you know, I'm having my surgery this Friday, already did the consult thing. Just think positive, everything will be ok hun. HUGS

Update: He's been referred to another doctor that has done MANY adrenal gland operations. Looks like it could possibly end up being laparoscopic, which is good. Also the mass doesn't appear to be worrisome to docs, and he could be returning to work tomorrow. I will post more as more news is available.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, and I will definitely keep you all posted.

My surgery went well with the hysterectomy. I went in on Fri morning and got out on Sunday night. I'm still hurting but on meds. The Dr told my husband that according to the pathology report, there was NO CANCER!!! Woohoo! I am hoping to be off the narcotics by Sunday and just on Ibuprofen :D

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. You are truly my little forum family. HUGS!!!

Still thinking about you and Rob Kim :D

Pat, so glad to hear you're cancer free!! That is wonderful news!

We go see the surgeon in a couple of days. He'll either clear him for work, or recommend surgery. Either way, I'm ready!

Update: Went to the Dr. yesterday, only to be told that MORE tests need to be run, namely, more bloodwork and urinalysis. They need to determine how (if anything) this mass is affecting anything else. Sounds like more money to me.

On the plus side, they did clear him for work. GOOD!! He's been home for a couple of weeks, and it's driving me nuts. LOL

I still expect surgery to be the final outcome, but that remains to be seen. Rob can't start the 24 hour urinalysis test until Monday, due to his work schedule, but when he turns that in, he'll get the bloodwork done. Then it's just a hurry up and wait....again....for the various docs to get the test results. UGH. I'm so tired of running around with all this.

Kim, I know all that Dr stuff is wearing on a body/mind but I'm sure they want to make sure they get the best course of action for Rob. You are still in my thoughts, just keep us posted. I am glad my dr referred me out to the oncologist, it was the best course for me. Some drs don't like to do that but he knew he was in over his level of expertise'.
I have to go back to the oncology office for the spot in my lung now since it's been a year. But I feel ok about it cause these guys really know their stuff and that's all they do. I also have to go to the endocrinologist for bloodwork to see about my thyroid and my bloodsugar (and anything else that might be going on). Don't like it but I don't trust my current dr to take care of it. All he does is bits & peices of tests and tells me to lose weight. Bah! So hang in there!! HUGS

Thanks Pat!! I know it's all in his best interest, it's just frustrating to go here, go there, do this, do that, you know?

I will definitely keep you all posted!

Yes hun, its very frustrating and costly with gas prices up again too. And it wears on a person. Hang in there hun.
I got the pathology and operative reports today on my surgery. Apparently it was a very difficult surgery. I guess they had problems finding my ureters, my bladder and several loops of intestine were adheared to my uterus by adheasions so he had to cut those, cysts in the tubes, a large bleeding polyp and cysts in the interior, and to top that all off, endometriosis! No wonder my guts feel jumbled lol.
But... for all the tests, waiting, workups and all... it's now worth it and I'm glad they took their time, really. So be brave and tolerant and it will all work out. HUGS to you both. :D

I'm sorry I've been so long in the update process.

Rob has a pheochromocytoma. It's basically a tumor on the adrenal gland. Finally, nearly 2 months after diagnosis, he's going to have surgery on the 26th. That's this Friday. I'm anxious to have it removed, and even more anxious for the healing process to begin. Rob has had a number of health issues that may or may not be caused by this tumor, and I hope that with the removal of it, some, if not most, of these issues will go away.

At any rate, once again, would you all keep him in your prayers as he goes thru this?

I am absolutely delighted to hear how things went Kim! At least that is a load off your mind, and Rob's! Here is to a good recovery, even if it takes a little longer. Don't have him push his recovery, God will help him heal in good time.
Let us know how he gets on with his recovery hun. Breathe in... and out! HUGS

June, I'm hoping Sam can get on the surgery list quickly. If not... go "junk yard dog" on someone! I know some about the medical red tape in AU and I don't like it. As you know I have friends in NSW and know about the issues from them about the healthcare system. Tell Sam to hang in there... and you too hun. Keep us posted please. My father-in-law had that issue too and the more he couldnt wee the more he didn't want to drink liquids so he'd have to wee. Then it gets into a cycle. He finally got "cleaned out" and he was fine after that. WHEW!
