Hi Ladies,

I'm a newbie reborner from Hungary, and so glad I found such a friendly, professional forum. There is nobody around me to answer my tons of questions so I tried to read through the forum to find answers, mostly succeeded: what to do with the smoky smell, how to prepare the alpaca hair for rooting, which are the best rooting needles and so much other.

I bought a cheap doll for practice, but she's so sweet that I'd like to make a perfect job on her even if she will be my first reborn baby. She doesn't have factory painting and brand mark but the vinyl is very soft. Can somebody tell me what kind of doll is she and its material can be heated?

She has a terribly orangish color, but I don't have color wheel so I can't decide, which would be better, to mix the flesh color with green or with purple to correct the vinyl's shade? The vinyl is translucent, can the inner purple wash help?

And finally, I'd like to ask for your opinion: what is more accepted in the reborning world, to keep the original body (it has very nice details) or change it to doe suede body? Pictures about the doll:

I'm at the very beginning and I need some more stuff to start the work on her, but I'm very excited about it, I hope she'll be a sweetheart when I'll be ready.

(sorry for my English, I hope I was clear smile )

Thank you all,

Liz

From the looks of your photos, I believe that is a Citytoy doll. Full vinyl body. Yes, I know a lot of people who bake them when reborning so you should be ok. You can also use heat-set paints on it. You would want to strip all the color, and remove the eyes and lashes as they won't take the heat.

Some put a new cloth body on the dolls and then use the original body for tummy/tushy plates to be able to charge more and have the doll more realistic. Your choice hun.

Be sure to follow the rules for washing after removing paint. (search forum). Also, use the mint green with flesh for orange babies. And you can google a color wheel.

Hope this helps and welcome to our family forum. You're gonna love it here! :D

I think you can use a blue wash on orange vinyl but don't quote me. Welcome and have a blessed day ! Ashley :):)

Well now I'm not sure hun. But it does look similar to most of the ones I have seen. I wonder what it says on the back of the neck or the tush of the doll? That would answer a lot of questions eh?

Thanks for clarifying that June. I was gonna say that after going back and rereading the post, I would have to agree that it was a Cititoy. Oh well, my bad....I usually don't know what I'm talking about....LOL!!

Thank you so much ladies, you all are really kind. June, I checked your Peterkin out, this cutie is your Amara Mea, isn't she? I'm happy she is worth the afford to reborn.

Pat, where can I find something about how to prepare the vinyl body for body plate? My other worry is about the neck of Peterkin (and my Berenguer doll), it doesn't suitable for cloth bodies. I looked after on the forum and maybe I need a neck adaptor, but I haven't a clue how it looks like. Can somebody post me a link or picture about what should I search for?

I'm sure there will be more questions smile

Can I post them here later, or it's better to open a new topic?

Hugs,

Liz

Great ideas ladies! Thanks as always :D
You can go to the DBS or BB websites to see about the neck adapters (I'm not sure which one of them carries the neck adapters, you'll have to look). Otherwise you can always do it the way Sage said above (or June).
You can post LINKS to your pics here in this topic (pics are only allowed in the artist showcase) without having to start a new topic thread hun. :)
There is an article on the Secrist website on making the body plates or else it's in the 2010/2011 guide they sell (actually free but you pay for shipping).

You're welcome Liz. Let us know how you are getting along on your doll and post some pics in the artist forum. There are topics for work in progress, finished dolls, etc. Just pick the appropriate one. :D

Thank you so much Pat, I hope this is my last question in this topic before I can start my work. There is a huge problem with Peterkin. She smells terribly. I tried the bake soda (for some hours) and cat litter (for two days) but didn't help. She has still intent plastic odour with a little fusty smell. Is there anything more what could solve this problem?

Once you have made your baby there is a baby powder cent that some of the ladies use, maybe this would be helpfull, but she may loose the smell after baking and painting. What about trying Vanilla Essence, with Bi Carb Soda. Cleans out the smell in fridgeas. XXXX JUne.

Thanks for that info June. You're always there with good tips! :D
I agree with June, some or most of the smell may just go away with painting and baking. You could also try washing the parts (I'm presuming you have taken the doll apart) in HOT water and a grease-busting dishwashing liquid. Rinse real well and let dry. Maybe in the sun?
