I'm trying to make my own reborn bottles,to sell as well as for myself just to be up front.
My nipples keep leaking! Boy that's a little over share sorry. I've done the E6000 but it just won't seal. I've tried putting vinyl glue over to do a final seal. I've tried vinyl glue alone.
I'm on my 10th attempt. I'd pull out my hair but I'd like to keep it as it's just started to grow longer.
So far the ONLY thing that seems to work is to put a little Gorilla glue around to seal the E6000. But that doesn't leave my nipple with the "clear" appearance.
I use a tiny syringe,no needle, to put the E6000 in the tip of the nipple for a better fit then NO syringe would.
I'm not artsy in anyway so this is as close as it gets for me doll wise. But I'd love to be able to sell bottles so I can afford another reborn or two eventually.
Any tips would be lovely. I got my "formula" and "milk" mixture figured out fast by taking some ideas from here and there and mixing them up. If only I could fix the darn nipples!
I use a sewing needle, dip it in silicone, put thread end in the hole though from the bottom and pull through, leaving silicone on and in the hole. Hope that helps. XXXX June.
Thank you SO much! I honestly was SO close to pulling my hair out. I'd even wracked my mom's brain trying to find different ideas as to how to seal them up! Now my three babies can have bottles finally!
Yep, that works too. One thing is that sometimes when you put the ring on the nipple and tighten it, it makes the nipple flat part in the ring kinda wrinkle up. So then it can leak there. Take a look at the base of the nipple to make sure it's not unevenly squished when the ring goes on tight. If you use our search feature you might find other information on making bottles. I know there have been a few posts about it in forum.
Oh yes, WELCOME to our family forum hun! Glad to have you :D
I did try the search and only came back with two returns that didn't help my problems.
I've not tried one yet, since between a fibromyalgia flare and an oncologist appt, I've not had time or felt like it.
But my mom did try to help me,she's Mrs. Craftmaster and has sewing needles out the yin yang, only she thought you were supposed to use thread. The neat thing is IT HOLDS!
I still can't get why the E6000 will not stay attached to the nipple. It takes the a gentle touch for the glue to knock lose once set for 2 days!
I'm hoping to get some made next week since for once this month I don't have a Dr.'s appt.
Have you tried preparing the bottle nipples ahead of time? I mean several days before you make the bottles? Also, maybe there is some film or something on the nipples that prevents the E6000 from sticking to them. Try washing them in a grease busting dish detergent in HOT water, then rinse well in HOT water. Then try it.
Well Sara's method didn't work. One touch and the glue fell loose. I'll just rewash a few at a time and try again. I swear I'm on my 20th try with these. I'm starting to think it's my glue. They don't even hold lids I seal tight. They hold magnets to my pacifiers though.
I'm thinking I'll pick up a tube of E6000 while I'm out tomorrow.
Not sure what mine are...they came with the bottles and some I bought used, but looked brand new.
I picked up some more E6000 from Hobby Lobby and the tube is different then the one I bought on ebay. It's the same sized tube. The cap is just different. I'm wondering if I got a bum batch...
Either that or maybe it was just old. I find that with the E6000, that once it is opened, it doesn't last for long. Even if I close it tight. It still feels squishy in the tube but when it comes out, it's more gel-like and doesn't move or run so easily. I just had to throw away 3/4 of a tube. I try to buy the smallest tube of it I can find. And I don't stock up because it can get old right in the tube!
i have the same problem with the E6000, it goes gel like and is hard to work with even when the cap is replaced, to say its expensive you would have thought it would have some staying power in the tube, and i found it didn't work on the milk bottles very well, i used the anitas tacky glue on the bottles

You can always go to a local pet shop and buy "aquarium sealer". It's basically silicone and even sticks to glass. I must warn you though... it smells like white vinegar.

yea the tacky glue worked, i put some on a tooth pick and blocked the hole, then dropped a bit into the bottom for good measure, it did take ages to dry though but the bonus was it dried clear x
ive not tried the aquarium glue though so i dont know which would be best x

Maybe if you would do a search on google it would tell you what glue people use to make reborn bottles. And you could search here on the forum ! :) hope I could be of help !
Just like I thought my first tube WAS bad! My mom got bored, how I don't know when she is always crocheting or making quilt blocks, and made one from the new tube and no leak!
The old tube is good enough to hold magnets on my pacis so it's not a total waste. I was playing around with those as well by using a zinc washer instead of magnet just in case one was backwards. But when I tested how well the washer would hold to the mouths I ran into an issue. At the time I just had 3 dolls, was waiting my 4th, only 2 have paci. Of those two the washer only held to one. It seems like the magnet is weak in my bigger baby.
Looks like I'll be doing bottles Thursday. Today was grocery day. Tomorrow is a Dr day.
Mom said she pushed the nipple inside out partly and put the glue down in that way. Once set for 3 days she filled it with water to check for leaks. So I'm going to make a couple at a time to start. One her way and one using Sara's method.
For the magnets to hold the paci... there is a thread in here where someone commented on how to do it so that you don't get a backwards magnet in the head. You may want to do a search on that.
Ash is partially right with the thicker vinyl on the larger babies, but its also the fact that the mouth area is larger so more surface area. So where the magnet/washer is placed in the head is farther away from the outside of the mouth where the other half of the magnet will join. It's still as strong but the magnetism has farther to travel to meet the other half. Like putting magnets on either side of a peice of paper verses on either side of a peice of cardboard. The magnets draw seems stronger with the paper. KWIM?
Basically what they said was to glue the magnet to the paci first. Then put your glue in the head behind the lips, hold the paci magnet to the lips, put in the other half of the magnet and let it draw itself to the magnet on the paci. That way it will flip over to the correct side on it's own so it won't be backwards and repel instead of draw. Does that make sense how I explained it?
Oh yeah, after it finds its correct side, then you can give it a little push inside to seat the magnet better. I'd leave the paci on the outside to make sure it doesn't slip out of place while drying.

Thank you SO much!
Before I bought my own paci and glue I bought one and it was installed backwards on the paci. So I fixed it after I got my own glue.
