Silicone caulk?

I noticed that silicone caulk, the kind you put in cracks and around the sinks and bathtub, says that it stays somewhat soft and flexible.  Has anyone ever used it to fill feet and hands or some other part of the doll?  Is it worthwhile investigating?

I wouldn't use it, as per tuturials, I think the poly pellets and or glass beads are the best way to go. XXXXX June.

If you want to experiment with it, I would suggest a "test" part. I wouldn't try it in a doll I'm working on. You would have to leave it for a long time (like over 6 months to 1 year) in order to get an accurate testing. I don't know if there would be any reaction between the silicone and the vinyl.
When people used to use the "baby fat" pellets, it would react, sometimes not until a year or two later, sometimes within 3-6 months. It made the vinyl leak, ooze, drip, and all kinds of other stuff. It became a gooey mess inside the vinyl or vinyl/silicone kit. No one still knows why... maybe a reaction to the kit, maybe to the kit with paint on it, etc.
Thing with silicone like you use on your tub or in your aquarium, it is either used under water, or on the "outside" of the peice. I'm not sure what it would do "inside" of something.

So, if you would like to be our reporter, have at hun! See what you can come up with if you want to. :o

Talk about reaction to silicone, Sam is alergic to his CPAP mask, it is made of silcone, so it doesn't have a reaction with yinyl, it also has a reation with some peoples skin, made his skin ripen like a peach and split open. Very painfull. XXXXX June

I remember when you posted about that June! Poor Sam, those pics were really serious. I'm glad he got better from that. :)

Were you talking about filling the limbs UP with the silicone? Or were you talking about sealing them with it? confused.gif

Pat did you know, that Johnson&Johnsons Baby Oil and Petroium Jelly has the same sort of base, he is alergic to baby oil, now it has been arround since I was a baby and I have used it on my kids, the Doctor said it clogs up the pours, doesn't let them breath and should not be used on humans. How's that, for learning something new everyday. XXXXX June.

I was thinking of filling the limbs and head only partially, just to add a bit of weight while still letting the limbs be soft. My little one's limbs are so hard after filling them up with beads and polyfill. My husband said she doesn't FEEL like a baby even though she looks like one. I've had to put in so many beads to make the 5 lbs. 2 oz. she weighs.

So that's my next unanswered question. When you put a doll on ebay or in your nursery and say it weighs 5 lbs. 2 oz. at "birth", does it actually weigh that or does it just look like it weighs that?

I know that particular question has been answered already, Poppy. I remember answering it elsewhere. If I find it, I'll link it.

This was actually from one of your earlier posts.

It does actually weigh that, you buy a pair if fishing scales ans hang her in a plastic bag to wiegh them also write with laundry marker her date and time of birth also do it with the head, arms and legs, with a biro, so no one can sell it off later on as their own work, advertise that is what you do. XXXXX June.

Sara/June - I have a digital scale, so that is no problem. But what is a "Brio"? I don't think I have one of those.

A Biro is a writting pen that allows a permant ink to roll out finely, it's useually used for writting letters, but a laundry maker would be just as good, you could even use eyebrow or vein pencil. That would work. We can buy Biro's over here for $2 for 12. at the $2.00 shops. You may have them over there and they are called something different, the main ones are mad by BIC. XXXXX June.

Ya June, the oil and petro jelly are all made from petroleum products. Both are waterproof so ya, they don't let anything breathe. Funny the things we use on ourselves eh?

With the tub/tile calk, before you put it in your baby, make sure it's not got any toxic stuff in it. If it does and your baby should be sold out of the country, it will be confiscated and/or destroyed by customs. That is why we don't use any kind of sand whatsoever in our babies any more, it's considered bio-hazard by other countries. Even the sterilized sand.
Also, I think there is alcohol or some kind of chemical in that stuff, I know it smells up the house when someone uses it. It also could trigger someone's allergies. Hmmm, lots to think about, besides what I wrote in your post about it before.
Just puttin stuff out there for thought...
