How do you root?

I was wondering how everyone roots the sides of thier babies hair?  Do you root front to back (at the top to meet the front ) or straight up to meet the front?

Also do you find it harder for the kid mohair to root and stay in on a harder head? My heads not extremely hard but I can't seem to get the kid mohair to stay in the hole when I root it.  I use the same needle I always do but the hair seems not to stay in.

Have you tried using the rice sock hun? Maybe it needs to be warmed up so the vinyl closes better around the hair shaft.
Kid mohair is harder for me anyway as it's finer than the second or third shearing. Like shaving my legs... the more I shave the coarser the hairs get hahaha

It depends on the head and the type of look I'm going for. Sometimes I'm hit-n-miss on the hair. I can go great guns from the swirl to the front all around, but sometimes I gotta do the sides first to where the top meets. Sorry, I guess that wasn't much help. :o
