Can anyone tell me what the end is made of? I see that there are 2 types available - a Bullet Point and a Brush Point. Has anyone ever used this tool? I love the sea sponges and am always looking for something with a new pattern. These mottling tools seem like they might be berry makers. Is the tip made of the same material as a berry maker? It says to carve patterns by splitting the ends with a trimming knife. That sounds cool, but I think I might simply try it with one of the berry makers I already have.
I'd stick with the sea sponge or kitchen sponge, they have an uneven mottle to them and look realy nice when done well. I have the berry maker and have never used it. XXXX June.
I have not yet had the opportunity to try the Secrist mottling brush. Secrist carries some excellent products, but when money is tight it's hard to justify the expense--especially when unsure if the product will perform as expected. I hope we get responses from some others who may have used this brush.
Like you, I have a very limited budget so I try all sorts of other objects to achieve the mottled baby look. I get some nice results with synthetic sea sponges, too. And yes, I do cut into the tips of the berrymakers.
In the meantime, I'll ask Secrist what the tips are made of.
