Quick question. The only paint technique I have is what I learned with the Zoe kit. For reborning the other types of dolls (berenguer, walmart, etc) do I need to paint the entire "skin" with paint or just pounce/blotch it on?
And since DVDs are NOT in my budget right now, does anyone have any online videos that they would recommend? PM me if you need to or link here if you can.
i'm not an expert like some of these ladys but heres what i do,i pounce a foundation on-- then do veining-some times i do my mottling at this stage too then another layer of flesh tones .may do several layers till i'm happy then ,blush, creases, lips, nails, eyebrows and matte varnish. every one has thier own style, brushes and sponges sage
Since this is a Secrist forum, we are supposed to focus on Secrist products--kits, paints, products sold by Secrist so I can't say I have a lot of expertise when it comes to anything else--especially, the play dolls that you take apart and actually "reborn". I haven't done very many of them because I hated sanding out the hair lines. Having said that, I think I would remove all the factory paint, and pounce paint on the entire doll if I was reborning it.
If you buy a DVD, it will demonstrate someone's "right" way of doing the painting. In reality, there really isn't one right way of doing things, but you can use that method as a stepping stone to develop your own process. Maybe you can find a good video on YouTube.
Good luck~

I do have to say that after understanding how to use Secrist foundation paint(no thinner needed)you can begin to like using it...at first I had difficulties with it...mostly that I'd use too much...Although I see that most the Secrist products are at a premium..some of them are extremely nice to use and just like BB baby skin paints..I can not force myself to use a substitute for it..for me its awesome...I just guess if you slapped me around a bit,I'd start to use more Secrist paints and products. LOL
Just doing my job. This forum is compliments of Secrist, and they have been one of a few companies that has tried to expand the art form by providing teaching materials, and training to anyone who wants to learn. Also... many of their products are made in Michigan and the USA.
Just an idea...maybe you could just try a tiny bit of Secrist paints some day when you can afford them (like the smallest size). If you just try a little, you won't have a huge investment in the product if you don't like it. I know it's hard to change from what you know you like so maybe just try something new once in awhile.
