As you know,  the "Babyskin" term is simply BB's private label for their custom Genesis paint colors.

Hi Sage....  No, I haven't used the paints.  However, I'm sure the Babyskin paints are fine because they are really Genesis paints that have been pre-mixed into custom colors at the request of BB.

I honestly have not purchased them because I have the Flesh colors in the Genesis line.  I always end up mixing various Flesh colors to use on my dolls so thought there would  be no need to purchase similar color.

Also since this is a competing product to Secrist's private label, and I am a Secrist dealer, I have a stock of pre-mixed colors.  Unless there is some special and hard-to-mix color that is only available on the Babyskin private label, I have not found a need for more Genesis paints.

If I was going to buy additional pre-mixed paints, I think I would lean toward the Secrist Authentic Reborn brand because those paints are pre-mixed AND thinned with the non-toxic Genesis-type thinner.  The Babyskin products that I see are the standard Genesis paints that do not have the Genesis thinner in the mix.  That means you would need to thin them as you would do with the regular Genesis paints.

I am in love with the Gensis line flesh colors and paints, I would rather buy my paints from secrist since I am not to New But I am scared to buy another kind except what Secrist puts out. But I am sure the other is just as good.

I have not tried them either, but yes, as Linda said, they are just Genesis custom colors and branded for BB. so I find no difference. They would apply and act/perform exactly like the colors that Secrist has.

Also, did you know that Secrist has "RealSkin Complexion paints"! Yes, they are on page 55 in the new 2010-2011 guide! Or if you don't have your copy of the new guide you can go to www.secristdolls.com. :)

For myself, I will continue to use the pre-mix paints, and also the solid color paints as I do use both and since they are both Genesis, I don't have to worry about any compatability issues!
I do also have the airdry paints from DD any may give them a try this summer (now that school is out for me).

HEY PAT!!! I am almost done with school.... Well just my students will be. hehe...
I have the pre-mix paints, I figure I would be less likely to get a message saying there is a problem with the knew stuff. lol I doubt it but you never know and it's convenet.

I haven't gotten the new issue of the guide, I didn't have any money to get it. But I will be soon I am sooo excited.

I must ask a question as I found out what bb stood for what does dd stand for? I have been all over the net searching for those places that have the secrist kits and ect. I love the Gensis paints, they are just easy to use I don't have to mix anything in with them..

Jodie,

Yup, I'm done with school but "I" was the student. hehehe I have my AAS degree as a professional Jeweler and Designer. :D But I'm glad you're done for the summer. Everyone needs a break! I know my hubby is also a teacher and he's off now too (no college students during the summer). I am looking to start a jewelery/goldsmithing school with 5 of my instructors as the college has closed my program and they're out of work! Pitiful really!
But anyway...
Yes, I think it's probably hard (unless someone pm's you) for newbies to figure what the heck we're all talking about with the initials of the "competitors" but we have quite a few...

BB, DD, DBS, IR, SR, etc. I know some of them are dealers for AV and Secrist but some are not. So we just make it not an issue and do the intitials. lol

Congratulations Pat, A job well done. You have your AAS Degree, how about posting some of your jewelery pieces so we can all see. I haven't had much time to reborn or do anything realy, we are coming into our colder days over here and I DON"T like it. How do you all put up with the snow. ...................................... Sam is going back to the hospital, well we went to Brisbane 3 times last week and have toi go Tue and Wed next week. It takes away any spare time. He will most probably have to go back and have another Tumor, Cyst or whatever they want to call them these days, out as it has gone through into the roof of his mouth and he will also, most likely loose all his top teeth. OH well, we will have to jump that bridge when it happens. ............................Once again CONGRATULTIONS. XXXXXX June

Congrats on the AAS degree, Pat!  It is a gigantic shame that the college closed the program.  Sounds like you were lucky to finish before they closed it?

June, continued prayers for your Sam.

Hugs,
Linda

Thanks ladies! Yes, its good to be done but now since they closed the program, and I don't have my jewelers bench set up yet (nor torches--we don't use soldering irons to solder hahaha), I am very limited as to what I can do at home.

June, I'll go and try to post some pics of my jewelery I have hand-crafted for you. :)
And you and Sam are always in my prayers hun!

I've been using the babyskin from BB from day one of my reborning..and recently added the secrist skin foundation from my expierence with the babyskin paint it seems alright with BB kits and secrist foundation skin(baby skin?) is a bit tricky cause you can not use thinner and the 1oz jar does not last very long..but these both products are OK...I have flesh o8 have not had enough confidence to use it yet..you know experiment with it...the plain unmixed Genesis is always considered the best..it's up to the artist to mix his or her own baby skin tones..or do the lazy artist way like me and buy the pre-mix stuff...using very thin layers is the key..but with me its like talking to the wall

I'm beginning to be confused over differences in paint so thought maybe I should try to clarify in order to have a true comparison.

Heat Set Paint Comparison Chart
PaintCustom Color MixThinner Needed
BB BabyskinYes
(Color created from mixing Genesis colors)
Yes
(Mix with mineral spirits or odorless thinner per BB website)
GenesisNo
(Artist may mix own custom colors)
Yes
(Mix with Genesis thinner to achieve paint consistency more like Authentic Reborn paints or odorless thinner to achieve a more liquid consistency)
Authentic RebornBoth
Custom Colors & standard Genesis Colors

Per Secrist:
Can you mix your own colors using Authentic Reborn heat-set paints?

Yes you can. Authentic Reborn offers the same paint colors as Genesis. Both brands offer Burnt Umber, Pthalo Blue 03 and more. But unlike Genesis Authentic Reborn does not need thinner to mix colors successfully. Each color comes 50% more transparent right out of the jar. W>hen you mix Authentic Reborn colors to create your own special color it too will be 50% more transparent than the same mix using Genesis.

Can I mix my left-over Genesis paints with my new Authentic Reborn paints?

Yes you can but the more Genesis that you add to the mix the less transparency you will have. Both paints are compatible together and bake the same.

No
(Authentic Reborn paints are already thinned.)

Per Secrist:
Can you add thinner to Authentic Reborn heat-set paints if you want to?

Yes you can but it may water down the color more than you need. Authentic Reborn paint is designed to be spread very thinly over the surface of the baby's skin. This gives you complete control over how gentle you want your color to be. The thicker the paint layer the darker the color. The thinner the paint layer the more gentle and transparent the color. Authentic Reborn gives you all this control without the need for any thinner at all.

Texture
I think the texture you are asking about is a feature of the transparency of the Authentic Reborn paint. Secrist says the pre-mixed and thinned Authentic Reborn paints give the ability "to create gentle, semi-transparent dot patterns that strongly resemble the look of soft baby skin."

Hope this helps!

Linda

Hello Everyone, I've used the baby skin and I like it. I don't use the others too much but I do like the baby skin. I don't like the texture foundation though. It just leave dots all over my baby. I've tried several times to use it and can't get it right so I started using the baby skin instead.

I agree. And there will probably be more when advances are made. Only thing is it can get confusing, so thanks for the chart Linda! :)
