I'm getting ready to make my 1st Asian reborn. I've finally perfected my technique using the berry makers which was shown on the Encyclopedia Part 1 dvd with my Caucasian reborns. This is going to sound really dumb--but I don't get the opportunity to see any Asian babies in the part of the country I live. I noticed that Michelle didn't use the berry maker technique when she demonstrated how to reborn an Asian doll. Does this mean that Asian babies do not have a mottled uneven skin tone like Caucasian babies? It appears that the berry maker technique was developed to use only with Caucasian babies. While I'm at it should I also eliminate veining because they would'nt show through an Asian baby's skin? Thanks much--Jaden
i don't know about the mottleing but asians arn't that dark, more of a lite yellow so i would still do the veining.if you could find some asian babys on the net that might help.isn't that dvd great? for some nice straight black hair there is a seller(ajhunter) on ebay who sells nuborn hair ,i ve seen a couple of babys done with it and its fab. hope to see how it comes out. yours sage ps. if you did the mottleing i'd keep it real lite.

Jaden, I think the amount of mottling and veining depends partially on how dark the complexion will be. I believe the Asian babies would have much less mottling, but I might be inclined to do just enough to make the skin look realistic if the complexion is not too dark.
The same is true for veining. If the veins will show through the skin color, I would do some veining.
Please keep in mind this is just my opinion, and not gospel! Trust your judgment, and give your baby the color and features that you feel look most natural.

Thanks for your imput Sage and Linda. You're both right --I need to do some more research i.e. look at more babies on the internet. You bring up an interesting point, Linda --even Asian babies can vary in the darkness of their complexion. I do own a Lee Middleton Kameko doll for example and I would guess that her complexion is probably too dark for an uneven skin tone or even veins for that matter. (if you haven't seen her-her skin is light brown in color) and yet I've also seen some asian babies for sale on ebay who were as fair as a caucasian and I suppose even that light is realistic too. Thanks again--Jaden
You are welcome, Jaden. If you want another Asian doll to look at, I have a photo of a reborned RE sculpt ("Li-Hua" by Sebilla Bos) on my website to show what the doll kit might look like after painting and rooting. Looking forward to seeing how your little Asian turns out when you are finished!

I even do mottling on my AA and bi-racial babies. They do have lighter areas on their bodies and I usually do veining too. If you get a chance to look closely at other ethnic skintones, they really don't differ much from ours, except the tonal qualities.
Even with Asian skintones, they do still have the little capalaries in their skin and even adult Asians do tend to "mottle" when cold or sometimes even warm (at least my friends do lol). But do google it and see what you can come up with.
