I think that most 17"babies would take a size 18mm eye, if they are Secrists eyes then you can put them in first but I tend to do this last after the rooting and the painting as they could shift position while doing the other processes. Who is Snookie by, is she a new Secrist kit as I only have the 2008 Tuorial and she isn't in it. I should look up the kit section as I have just got wireless on and this has made the computer so much faster. XXXXX June. PS. I have a Pedigree Doll like yours in your avator only she never had any hair, She is 58 yrs old.

I love your avatar doll, Sage. She reminds me of the types of the kinds of dolls I saw at the UFDC convention.
Sage, I'm a Berenguer dealer and was told the eye size for the Snookie kit is 20 mm.

Is she a sucky in lip Berenguer, shop bought baby that you have to strip back or a kit? Ihave one to reborn too, not sure if she is a Snookie, she has groved in hair, full arms and full legs, I kept the body to do either a bottom plate or belly plate. As for your pedigree, it is quite easy to restring, you just need the thick round elastic, less than a meter. You do from one arm hook to the other pulling firmly, use a pair of surgical forceps to hold it while you put into other arm hook, pull thightly and just tie off with about three knots. With the legs and head all you have to do, is cut elastic long enought to go from head hook down both sides and out leg holes, put elastic through one leg hook and push it through the body to other leg opening, holding them firmly again with the forceps, thread from other leg elastic ,up through the hook pull firmly again and hold with the forceps, tie off again. That's all there is too it, if I have explained myself correctly. You can glue the knots so they wont slip. to redress her, they where only ever dressed in voile or cotton, some had bonnets, they had a cotton pedicoat and undies that where the shape of the body. no elastic in the legs. I more tip, instead of using this elastic we get today that you have to replace, use ribbon in your sleeves and waists. XXXXXXX June.
Oh by the way I measured the eyes and it is either 18mm, or 20mm. You will just have to measure eye opening to get correct measurement. From tearduct to outside edge. XXXXX June.
well, snookie just arrived- she is an open mouth baby and wow she looks like she 'd make a bigger doll then 17" in fact the cloth body she came with looks to small for her head-full leg of course this is my first kit,i've been working on rescue dolls so maybe my judgment isn't tuned in right.anyway i'm sure it'll be tons of fun. as to my avatar-sweet baby-thanks so much for the advice-the restringing sounds doable but scary.i've got a lovely patten for a victorian drop waist dress with bloomers, like a child would have worn back then. i also think she'd look great in a russian fur hat ,muff set. as you can tell she's gonna be one spoiled baby . thanks again sage ps. you're great

Linda, I had no idea you were a Berenguer doll dealer.
Sage, if you want details on measureing size for doll eyes (besides what Linda and June have said here) just use the forum search feature and type in doll eyes or measure for doll eyes (any wording like that) and it should bring up alllllll the posts on eyes. :)
Yes... I haven't restocked in awhile, but have a few of the the Berenguer kits left on the shelf. Their first kits were debuted at an IDEX a few years ago. Those first kits still had the molded hairlines. After the critiques from dealers and reborners at IDEX, the next group of kits had smooth heads. The expressions on the Berenguers are adorable, but the vinyl is not translucent and the bodies are th non-jointed style made in an off-white cloth.

linda ,i do like berenguer dols as a lot of my rescue dolls tend to be them or cittoy - i'm hopeing snookie will turn out nice but your right about the body, it is a kind of coarse off white non jointed boby . the vinyle is a nice peachy color but i still think she needs a bigger body.her head and chubby limbs are as big as my j turner real babys. everyones advice is a great help. yours sage

I bet your Snookie will turn out nice, and I agree she would look better with a bigger body with those chubby limbs. I'd love to see her when you finish.

hey linda, boy am i confused - i know you told me snookie took 20 mm and i had her eyes picked out(hazel) then the person who sold me the kit says she takes 18mm.so i'm lost.... i'm glad you agree about the bigger body-l'm planning on replaceing my j turners body with a bigger one also-i could just eat up those chubby arms and legs. i had a chance to show one of my babys at the fair but i took a pass on it cause i didn't feel she'd be safe. has this happened to you. thanks sage

I'm sorry about the eye size confusion. I have Secrist eyes of different sizes around here because I have found conflicting information, but I couldn't afford many eye sizes if I used the really expensive eyes.
I think it's great that you had the chance to show one of your babies at the fair. What kind of a fair? Is this a county fair or a state fair? Just to be asked or have the chance is flattering. I agree, though, that you did the right thing by taking a pass if you didn't feel she would be safe.
Right now I live in Arizona, and I have to say the state fair out here is nothing as grand as the ones in the midwest where I grew up. I remember what seemed like gigantic buildings that house the food, clothing, and crafts exhibits. The dress I made in 4-H (I don't even know if they have 4-H here) won a grand prize at the county fair and was sent to the state fair. It was a thrill, and I had the help of a wonderful 4-H leader. Ain't it sad that my sewing skills have languished? I could be earning the big bucks sewing doll clothes or doll bodies. LOL.
