No question is a stupid one =) Yes most rebornist do wash the vinyl parts just to make sure there isn't any unseen residue on them =) as for dyeing them...I'm not sure what you mean.

thanks for the answer,as to the dyeing-sometimes the vinyl on rescue dolls is n't pretty so i take ritz liquid dye-pink and tan- for a caucasin it 's one cap pink and one cap tan ,check every 2 minutes for desired color.for ethnic babys its one cap pink and 2 caps tan.it has to be liquid as powder tends to settle and cause bruising thanks sage

When I first started reborning I used the ritz dye method until I found out about painting them with air dry paints, I have been using them for 2 years, but everyone has their own way of  making their babies.

Most of us don't do the dye bath any longer because of the bruising, even with the liquid Rit. It can migrate even over a year later. With the Secrist kits you would do an internal wash and I do mine even with the darker vinyl blanks Secrist offers, just because the vinyl is still translucent. Michele will speak of this I believe.

Or some people do an outer wash but Secrist strongly recommends that you do the internal. And bake it for 10 minutes not 8 like the rest. We found that it doesn't get cured enough at 8. The outer colors are all ok at 8 mins to cure.

With any other doll kit manufacturer, the vinyl isn't translucent like Secrist so most of them don't need any internal wash. These are the ones that usually get the outer wash instead if you want to do it. Only the vinyl from DD that comes from Germany would be a good candidate for the internal wash as their vinyl is close to Secrist's.
