Being a newcomer I am full of questions. I notice that some of the reborns have very moist nostrils,  lips and/or tears.  How do you get that ?

This is a great message board.  Thanks so much to all of you!!!  I love my new hobby!

WELCOME TO THE FORUM!biggrin

you can create moist lips, tears, ect. by using secrist babytears, also known as paper glaze. you can order from secrist, or find it in a craft store, but i haven't seen it anywhere yet. you can apply it with the pointed tip or use a paint brush. it dries faster than glue if you put it on thin, but if you want it thick, i would put it on in layers to keep it from turning a white-ish color. i'm sorry i'm giving a lot of information, but i just started using it for the first time, i don't want you to make the same mistakes. happy reborning!smile

I use either the paper glaze or sometimes I'll just use the high gloss that came with my paints. Thats what I used when I started. The same way Ivy suggested, a thin brush on the lips, eye lids if you desire and for the corners and nose a sharp pointed brush.

Audrey, I also use the Aleene's Paper Glaze, and have found it at places like Michael's and JoAnn's Fabrics. I use the Aleene's Paper Glaze when I want a highly wet-looking and shiny finish like inside the mouth, around the eyes to resemble wet tears, etc.  I almost never use it on the nails as I think it makes my babies look less real.  Remember all of this is my opinion on my dolls.  There may be times when you will want a high gloss finish.

Sometimes you want less of a shine--especially if you don't want the baby to look like it's sick and has a runny nose.  I use the heat set Genesis glaze or the Authentic Reborn glaze that Secrist sells (http://secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/56714) .  It is a subtle gloss and looks more natural to me.

Hope this helps!
