If it didn't melt the vinyl then you should be ok. You might want to check your color wheel to neutralize any colorchange the heat from the element may have made on her head. You can also post a "link" to her pic here so we can see what the issue looks like. Remember... only links to the pic.

Also, if the vinyl isn't melted you should be able to just paint right over it.

I've done something similar myself in the past. If it's only where the hair will go maybe you'd want to consider a wig to cover the area instead of rooting. Might cover it better.

Oh my!  There must be something in the air that we're having these disasters!  Mine happened this weekend.

(See "Works In Progress" for pictures & below:

Oh my, what a disaster this weekend - my baby's head melted!

I've used my oven in the past with premie heads & limbs with no problems but this is the first time I've tried a larger head (the Acorn sculpt).  Maybe I should have baked limbs first and then the head so I could have centered in the oven more.  There seemed to be plenty of room for all of it...

Also, I had read that you should bake the internal purple wash for 10 minutes instead of the 8 - was this correct?  I also had my oven thermometer that said I was at the correct temp.  Any ideas?

Has anyone else done this?  Seems a very costly mistake but I will be ordering more supplies from Secrist & give Acorn another chance.)

The brown line that appears on the head was not in direct contact with the element but in my panic to try to save the head I used a spoon to try to reshape before the vinyl cooled.  Yep, a true disaster.

Well, we're still newbie's at this 3crazykids, but sooner or later we're gonna learn!

Joan

Sorry you got a booboo baby hun! :( I had a BB kit that I totally melted the finger tips on and one foot! She looks like a space alien! But I love her anyway! I did have to order more limbs though! After 5 years now I can look at her and laugh (but I cried when I cooked my baby).

Yes, the internal wash should be baked for 10 minutes. We found that since it was inside the heat was not circulating properly and the extra 2 mins works just right.

I always have to double check my oven thermometer as once I thought it was supposed to be 365F instead of 265F (that's when I made the alien baby!). So I always second check myself. But if you're doing 265F (or 130C) you should be spot on!
