I am ready to start but.......

I just received Zoe in the preemie starter kit #2 and have just watched the video.  I thought the kit would come with flesh color paint and instructions how to pounce and build up layers for the skin color, but that step has been missed out.  I want to practise everything with my first little baby including micro rooting and I have bought all the supplies I think I will need.  The only thing I'm unsure about is the purple internal washing. Will this make a noticeable difference to the realism of her? Thanks in advance for any help. I'm so excited to finally be ready to start have wanted to learn this art for so long biggrin

Welcome to reborning and this forum! This is a very rewarding art. As to your questions, o, the purple wash will not make a big difference. Did your kit really not come with flesh color paint? It's supposed to. You pounce it on the same way as everything else, thinner on sponge, little bit of paint, and then the pouncing action. Please feel free to ask anything else, and have fun with your baby!

I internal wash would help give Zoe depth to add to her realism since her vinyl is translucent. I too started with the reborning video, it should show you how to pounce and mix your paints, at least mine did. Mostly it's a trail and error learning experience for layering, there is no set in stone way to approach it.

You should have gotten a two flesh colors #7 and #8. What DVD do you have? I learned the steps thru the Secrist DVD called The art of Newborning II Painting with Genesis Paints.
That one is the best to learn the different steps to painting them. I do the internal was also. It only is good on translucent kits. Everyone is different in how they do it. You have to find what works the best for you. Zoe was my first kit. Best of luck!

I just use the translucent wash under the bridge of the nose and the ears as most often other parts of the kit is covered with layers of flesh veining and matt and the head is rooted. If it is pre mixed you put a couple of dots of the flesh 08 and 07 plus about 5 dots of ouderless thinners. If it is full strenght flesh colours then you have to make it more watery, so it goes on thinly, and you can add layer upon layer. As you pounce, twist and turn your spong so the paint goes on a little uneven in coulour. Make sure your lips follow the lip line, also do this thinly and apply second or third coat as to the colour you require. Hope this is of some help. The DVD is so worthwhile at watching, it shows in detail how it is done. Elly Knoops and other like kits dont need internal wash. XXXXX June

In the kit #2 it says (and shows) that you get 3 petite paints  http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/16840 so in that case you would not have the flesh colors included. If you would like to learn with the flesh-tone paints may I suggest that you get the beginner classroom training dvd and the flesh 08 & 07 to go with it. Then follow that dvd. It does give more of the standard beginner techniques instead of just the quick method of painting your kit.

As was already mentioned, the Secrist kits are made especially translucent for the internal wash. I have done with and without and went back to with because it really made a difference in the realism of my babies. I have been reborning over 5 years now.
