Hi, I just wanted to first say I ordered the Secrist baby eyes and they are perfect,so realistic!
My question: During sculpting the eyes have gotten covered in a clay film that I do not want to be there after baking. How does everyone remove the film without damaging the eyes? I did not want to use alcohol or thinner before asking in case it turns them cloudy...
I just take a cotton tip and clean them. I have also used thinner (the Monalisa and Lowellcornelle) and never had a problem. But after using it I also use one with water and go over it. make sure eyeballs are dry.
simple rubbing alcohol cuts the clay wonderfully. Just try to do as best you can to not get it on the surrounding area as alcohol is a solvent for polymer clay. Many of us who do figure sculpting use it in combination with brushes to smooth our sculpts prior to baking.
You also want to be careful of what you use on the eyes themselves as some chemicals will/can damage the surface of the eyeballs. Especially if you don't get it all off.
Thanks for the idea on the alcohol for smoothing with brushes, that was great!
