Hi all, I have always done rooting on my dolls but I had one that I wanted to put a wig on instead but it was a real disaster. I thought glueing on a wig would be easier but turns out I am doing something terribly wrong.
I got a clear cap wig that has very wispy hair and I put glue (Aeleens Original) on the wig itself. When I went to seat it on the dolls head the glue seeped through the clear cap and got all over the hair. I managed to shampoo all the glue out and there was still some hair left when I combed out the snarls.
Can anyone give me some easy instructions on glueing on a wig like this? Also, once the wig is glued on I want to try rooting some extra hair into it. Does anyone know if that will work?
I think rooting is much easier but I still want to use the wig on this one doll. Thank for any help given me. Frances
I glue in sections and don't heap a lot of glue on it as, like you said, it seeps through. I start in the back at the nape of the neck, apply glue and let set. Then I go to the crown of the head, glue, apply wig at that point and again let set. Then the front, do the same, then sides in back of the ears, then in front of the ears. A little time consuming but it works!
As far as adding rooted hair, it should work providing your glue stays flexible.
I read this, Pat, but I ordered a Pia wig from Secrist and I really want to do it right. Are there any pictures of a wig being glued on you can post or find? Thanks! G
Not that I know of. I think there used to be one on the Secrist site or the Apple Valley Doll Works site (Secrist's Sister company). www.avdw.com
I don't use thte tacky glue, I use a hot glue gun. Here is what I do...
Put the wig on the head and get it all where and how you want it. Be sure your glue gun is heated long enough. Turn your doll face down, told the wig up at the nape of the neck, run a bead of glue, press wig down right away. The glue cools off quickly.
Then, with your wig secured at the neck, roll the wig back, starting from the forehead until half way past the middle top of the head. Make a spiral of glue on top of the head. Gently but firmly press the wig into the glue, rolling it forward to the forehead again. Next, lift the sides of the wig in back of the ear, laying a bead of glue, press, then do the same in front of the ear. For your final step, run a longer bead of glue under the wig on the forehead area, press and you are done.
NOTE: make sure that the hairs do not get caught in the glue while attaching the wig. I will try to figure out how to post pics or something on this.
