Which shapers to use?

I'm confused about the clay shapers that Secrist is selling.  They say clay shapers, but they look like the color shapers.  On the color shapers site, the ones that are called clay shapers are black, and the color shapers are white.  So is what Secrist is selling actually the color shapers that are being used for clay?  Thanks.

I am working on my very first sculpt right now, and I think that getting these shapers will help me. Right now my baby has big dents and creases, which are supposed to be easier to avoid with these shapers. I just want to buy the right ones. Thanks for your interest.

Good luck! I hope we will see him/her soon. I also want to try sculpt one (hehehe) I made a couple of items with pottery clay. I know it is not the same, but I will still want to give it a go.

I may be showing him/her soon, but baby's face is changing constantly. It seems I'm always cutting off some feature and redoing it. Maybe sometime it will look good enough. Does nobody know which tools I need?

What I can see hun is a set of black handled clay shapers and a wood colored handled paint remover. The clay shapers are what you want. Colorshapers are the brand I believe. But the single double-ended paint remover can be used for clay also but do get the other ones. I have them, both sizes and I love them!

Hi Andrea, I use the smallest one to details, like nose, nails, eyes, or some part that is more small. And the medium to borders, like fingers, toes, parts of the arms, ears, feets...creases...or to flat or smouth some part. I really never used bigs ones. The white ones looks like a little more longer and flexible  than the black ones. I prefer the blacks ones, I only have one white, small to work inside the holes of the nose, or inside the ears, and or inside the mounth. I hope it helps you.

Basically in painting class and ceramics class we have used those tools. One color is firmer than the other. I think the darker ones are more firm (don't quote me though lol).

In painting/ceramic class we use them to remove our booboo's if we get paint where we don't want it. They are very versatile tools. I also have a small set I use to remove fired gold or silver from glazed ceramics. They're kind of like windshield wipers! But either or all are nice for sculpting. You can also use a frosting knife or a spoon, or even what we call in ceramics a "fettling knife". Google that one or check with art supply stores.

You are right. Black is the most firm and the one I generally prefer.  Grey is medium firmness.  White is the softest.
