Hello from TN!! I usually reborn or newborn the Bountiful kits. Thought I might do a l7 inch baby from here. First of all, I'm having problems with the baby becoming a little shiney after I try on several outfits and do photos. At first they are just beautiful. I am pretty careful not to over heat the baby parts. I have even not done it long enough for the paint to set. It just doesn't matter. Even dolls that I have bought are getting shiney. But I have one doll. She's a Secrist sculpt called Jody. First of all, this doll smells wonderful.. It's not coming from her cloth body it's in her skin. Also her skin is not smooth. It's grainy (is that a word? lol) feeling but this doll looks so real. I took her out the other day and there were people calling other people to come look. I wished she had been my work. *sigh*. I'm still pretty new...I've been doing this for about 7 months and I probably have done about 14 dolls. I did paisley and I was so proud. She was beautiful and people said she was the best they had seen. Well...It's been about 3 weeks and now she is looking shiney on her arms and legs. Anyway..I talked to the woman that do Jodi and she would not tell me what she did. When I asked about the texture of the skin, she said 'it was a trade off'. I took that to mean that to get the skin to stay the way it was from the beginning. Now..I have had this doll for 8 months. She still smells like the day I got her and her skin is NOT shiney ANYWHERE. This drives me crazy....Can anyone help me? Also I got the Lucy baby from Marrissa May and she was the first I got that was reborned by someoneelse. The baby looks like she is turning blue around the mouth and eyes. Her whole body has become shiney and she was so beautiful when I got her. I want to know how that baby smell got into Jody's skin and just how she was done. *I can't stop thinking of this* lol...

Hi Aviva, did you post this in another place? I am just curious to know what they are going to say about this shinning. I am newbie and reborned Zoe Kit, from Secrist, using all secrist stuff, and even dvds from them. My doll came beautifull!!I just liked very much even being my first work. And she still with this very good smell and does not shinnes. Now I am going to start my new kit, Lollypop, also from Secrist. and after this one I wish Sparrow. I would like to know about the Bountiful kits...Are they good to work as Secrist? Is the vinyl so translucid as the Secrist is? and the head is soft to root like the Secrist dolls?. Always good to know. I just was thinking if someone come to me with a order that would be a Bountifull kit...

I use heat set matte varnish. I dilute it about 60/40... 40 being paint thinner (aka mineral spirits) I put it on with sea sponge that's really textured and I put it on with cosmetic sponges. I've heat set it and then put another coat on it and heat set that. One girl that has been doing reborning for 5 years said that she used the heat set varnish (I'm talking about Genesis as that's all I use) all by itself with out diluting it. So I tried that and it came out looking like whitish patches. So I used cosmetic sponge and used the thinner to get the white stuff to go away. I have a stencil stippler brush and have tried this...still it doesn't matter. I have a doll that Angela Meyer did from Lifes Little Loves Nursery and the baby is wonderful (Klarrissa kit..not sure where it came from), but the arms and legs have started to shine some...but not bad at all...you don't notice it much...I think this might be silicone/vinyl. I also have another called Piper kit and she's a little bit but not much...but some of the blush seems to be less..and Kristen from LifesLittle Loves did this one. I think it's silicone/vinyl too. So I can't really compare them to the others. I really think it like polishing the baby when we are changing the clothing. It's got to have something to do with it. But heck..if you think it might be the kits...I'll try to do a Secrist. I did Tina Kewy's preemie ...can't think of her name....not very cute..and I did her Georgia kit and I was so careful and she's shiney...and it looks like the paint is fading. I have a lot that are really pretty and cute etc...it's just that they are not up to my standards..

oh yes....the bountiful are very soft and easy to work with and the prices are great...I just love the plugs and neck ring. That's why I stopped buying kits on Ebay.

I never heard of the skin smelling like a baby scent however I do know of a lady on Ebay that sells scented satchels you place inside the body that puts out a wonderful baby scent. I did once get a baby that nice smell and the artist sent along a spray (unmarked) with the scent in it. I'd love to get some of it for my other babies however no one seems to know what the scent is
Tina, I got some of those sachets (4) and the lady that bought one of my babies says that the baby smells like talc!! And she says that she tells the baby..."you stiiiinkeee". So I told her that if she wanted, I could tell her how to remove the little sachet. (she's 70 and thinking of reborning a baby herself) it would be a little 'practice'...lol. She said NO....she didn't mind her baby smelling...that way she could say 'YOU STINKYYY BABY!!!" So now I don't know if I should use them or not. I also ordered the oil from England...it was 10.00 for about an ounce or two at the most..thinking more of an ounce. It said to drop a few drops into each limb..(most likely after you put the glass beads in), but I don't really think it works. Not like Jody is. It's like maybe she smelled like that in the first place or she was soaked in something. Someone here mentioned their baby smelled really sweet. (Sorry, I'm a grandma and on lots of medication for illness..so it's hard for me to remember things). Please excuse grammer errors and spelling. Honestly..the older you get the worse everything gets..lol. I had a 4.0 average in Vocational Nursing school. That was over 20 years ago though. Oh..I saw the baby scent spray and got that too...it did not smell like I thought it would. So I keep going back to the drawing board. Hunt and seek game going on. :o)

Stinky?? LOL I have one in my Avatar baby everyone love the smell. Everyone like different scents I guess. I wanted to let you know though I am currently reborning a kit now and as I'm painting him I detected a scent that reminded me of a baby. I couldn't figure it out. I smelled the vinyl and low and behold there was the scent strange I never had a kit before that started out with a baby smell! I'd be leary in putting any liquid or scented material into the vinyl parts of my babies, you just never know the long term effect of it. A body is easily replaced but the limbs and head?? Too much time and hard work go into them to take the chance. Don't worry about the spelling..I do it too I live for spell check LOL need on here..hehehe
Are you using a Secrist sculpt? Do you think that is why Jody smells good? I asked the question somewhere, now I can't find where it was about certain kinds of limbs offered. I was looking at the Jody kit and when I clicked on the type of limbs (length etc.) there was a 3/4 limb with a different name. *sigh*..I even found the paper I had it wroteon and now I can't even read my handwriting!!! I know this sounds really weird, but I fell asleep while on the computer about 6 weeks ago and don't ask me how, but I fell directly on the top of my head. The floor down here (full basement converted to 2 bedroom "Mom quarters" apt.) And don't worry..there are french doors to outside and windows all along one side. There are lots of houses like this that are built on hills..upstairs opens onto the top of the hill and the basement opens to the back yard. It just sounds bad to say I keep my mom in the basement...lol. Anyway..back to the falling out of chair. I have Tarkett floring in the kichen/dining room area and there is hard concrete under it. Anyway...after I fell, I got up and got back in the chair determined I was going to finishpaying on my charge accounts..but I couldn't remember where I put my passwords...so I fell asleep again and darn it if I didn't fall on my head again. Iand it seem like I didit a third time. Well the next day I couldn't hardly write at all except for horrible chicken scratchings. Also my right hand turned inward. You know how kids with cerebrel palsy holds their hands.? Also when I tried rooting hair it did the same thing. Well I was determined to not let it get the best of me and I worked my hand really hard. I still have trouble trying to spray things. At first I had to bend over in front of the hair spray and then push on it while it sat on the counter. Oh that was so much fun... Finally after about 9 days..I finally went to the ER and they did a CT scan of my head I guess and they said it was okay...but I'm still in PT for my neck. I don't know if that was something from the fall or not. Now I can sit back and laugh at myself for being so stupid. And thank my God that I'm okay. I was determined not to have another bad Dx. added to what I already have. So....to make this short....(lololo) SK or another kind of kit?
