Hello all!! Well, I said i'd better introduce myself as i've already asked a few questions around the site!! I'm Jen, i'm from Ireland and a total newbie to the world of reborning. Ye have amazing talent, all the pics of the babies look fab! I have a lot of questions and i think i will be annoying ye all a lot over the next while! I have ordered my first doll kit. It's the Brea kit. ok, here go some questions!!
Is it possible to get a somewhat realistic and pleasent look using standard acrylic paints as opposed to ghsp? I am on a tight budget so at the moment I will not be investing in the genesis. Also, what thinner can be used with acrylic paints?
secondly, can human hair be used to root a reborn? I am thinking of using my old hair extensions as I do not have a credit card so can not buy mohair online and its not available in my area
thirdly, what size clothing would a 21'' baby take? I've bought a few bits in 0-3months already, i'm hoping they'l fit!!
as i said, i'm totally new to reborning so any advise, especially on painting with acrylics would be great!!
Hello again Jen, I'm June M from Oz, but I have been Married to An Irish husband from Cullybackey, Co Antrim Nth Ireland, for 43 yrs on the 13 th of this month. After 2 dates, we arried 13 days later. As for acrylics, you need to use acetone to thin the paint, and you need to wash the kit in suddsy water and let dry, before painting. It doesn't look as realistic as Genesis, but then if you do it in thin layers, you maybe able to achieve some nice results. 0-3 mths clothing should be fine. I haven't use human hair but I guess it is worth a try. Best of luck with your reborning. Pat B will probably be able to answer your questions in a bit more detail. Thanks Pat. XXXX June.
wow! 43yrs!! thats good going june!! I'm from the south! From Co. Cork! I love it but the weather is really getting on my nerves! lol!! Thanks for your reply, i cant wait to get going on the reborn! I wish my kit would arrive soon!
ok, after a few days of thinking and trying to convince myself that acrylics would do the job, i really dont want to ruin my brea doll kit so ive just ordered my genesis starter kit. paints and baby should arrive next week. im glade i splurged out now. i cant wait to get started!
Wecome to our forum! You'll like it here. My great grandparents are from Ireland (trying to fine our where just about now) and I just made a wonderful new friend who is straight from Ireland and I just love listening to him speak!! :)
Good, glad you decided to order the Genesis. I really think you'll like them over the acrylics. You only need water to thin the acrylics but they will never be permanent. I hope you ordered a dvd to go with your paints as we are here to help not to teach anyone how from scratch.
Yes, human hair can be rooted on a doll kit.
those clothes should do just fine. You'll have to keep us posted on how it's going.
so, my kit came today! working on it all day! im addicted!!! worried about rooting hair, i have no needles or holder so looks like i wont be rootng.. ive got no experience with art or craft so my knowledge on using different types of needles is v basic.. is there any alternative to mohair rooting and wig? cant wait to start on my bub agan tomorro!!!!!!!
To me, reborning is about doing the whole baby, as I have done both porcelain and reborns, I feel that wigs are for porcelain and it is another challenge to root the babies hair. XXXXX June M
There is a new trend among some reborners. It's "painted" hair. There are a few on ebay and I know Danielle Zweers had painted hair on her second set of 6" mini triplets. Looks rather cool! Not sure what it would look like on a full sized doll though. Depends on the technique I guess. Other than rooting and wigging I don't know of any other type of hair application but painting.
