Acrylic Paint
Permalink

Hi all!! Right, just joined the forum! First time reborner, waiting on my Brea kit to arrive. As I splashed out so much on the kit, I cannot afford very expensive paints. I have bought acrylic paints. I hope someone can tell me if they are usable on my first baby?? Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

My opinion of Genesis vs. Acrylics is:

Acrylics: frustrating, slow, they fade and bleed, you can't fix mistakes without stripping the whole doll, difficult to work with, impossible to get a realistic effect, etc. . . The only good thing about them is that they're somewhat cheaper.

Genesis: easy to work with, mistakes are easy to fix, they're permanent, you can get very realistic effect with them, and they're really not very expensive for their worth.

I did my first two babies in acrylics, and I did not like my results. They are cute dolls, but not real-looking babies. My next 3 that I painted with Genesis are real-looking babies, they really do fool the eye. The main difference: Genesis instead of acrylics. You can see their pictures on my website at: www.freewebs.com/andreasdreambabies Emily and Kimberly are my first 2, and Samuel is the only one of my 3 Genesis babies that's on there right now.

So my final advice to you is BUY GENESIS Don't waste your time or kit on acrylics.

thanks for your advise! The thing is, I can't get genesis paints over here. What type of paint are they? are they specially designed for reborn babies? could you select a similar pant from the link below? It's one of the only art supply shops in my city

thanks for your help

Jenny, just get the small premixed Genesis, from this site you may also like the Strawberries and cream or Peaches and cream, you will get at least 6=7 dolls with these and still have some colours left over. Acrylic is awfull, I did my first 2 also with it and hated them, redid all that work. So if you haven't opened your tubes take them back for a refund. XXXX June.

Genesis paints are not oil or acrylic but are in between. They are a kind of paint all their own. They are thixatropic which means they are thick in the container but when mixed become smooth like oils. They need to be heat-set with heat at 265 degrees F for 8-10 minutes so they can become permanent. There are no other paints on the market like them.

Secrist has sn ethnic set that you can purchase.

Jennie, those paints you showed are the correct Genesis paints. You probably will want some ethnic paints sets, though. The flesh tones in that set will be too light.

As long as they are Genesis they should be ok. But MR is right, the flesh tones will be too light for and ethnic baby.
I will tell you this... there are several companies that have their own mixes of Genesis and those colors go with their method. If you have the Secrist colors they will go better with the Secrist method. Hope this helps. The BB ones will not work with Secrist as the colors are very different.
