I've read several posts that mention using a rice sock to heat the head to make rooting easier. Do I fill a sock with rice, tie it, put it in the microwave beside a glass of water and heat? Do I need to moisten the rice? Would someone please post the directions for me?
I use a sports sock (white, as I'm always paranoid about colour transference). Fill it with rice but not hard. Leave enough room so that can put part of the sock in the head and let the rice run from one end to the other and then kept poking more sock in, repeat until all in. My sock was tied off with a knot until my mother visited and sewed it up for me. I put it in the microwave for one minute at full power (no water). I used to microwave for 2 minutes with a cup of water in the microwave but I'm clumsy and used to knock the cup over. My method works just as well. Use Jasmine or Basmati rice (just for the aroma). DON'T wet the rice.
That is correct... don't wet the rice or it will cook and you'll be rooting with mush! lol We want real rice, not minute or any kind of instant type rices. Just a cheap bag of inexpensive regular rice will do. I have mine in a light weight denim fabric with a knot at the end. I put mine in for 3 minutes next to the cup of water. I like to make tea with my water while heating the rice bag. :) mmmmmm!
I was surprized as the rice actually stayed really hot/warm for a long time. And it made the head a dream to root. Even though I do use Secrist vinyl, which doesn't NEED heating to root, I still do it cause it makes it even so much better :)
Might be a good idea to search the forum for other threads on rooting as there are several. This will give you a good idea.
