Alpacka and mohair can be dyed by using human hair dye shompoo and conditioner, if it isn't matted already put it in rubber bands, the ammount you want to dye, brush it and dye as directions, allow to dry naturally. You can also use Tea and Coffee so I have been old for blonds. XXXX June.

Oh that was funny Liz! :)
I dye my own angora goat hair but it's still on the hyde. I just use a non-ammonia people hair dye.

I think it might be a good idea to wash the hair first and to remove all (or most) of the debris from it before dying as it may affect how it turns out in the end. I know they say for humans to wash your hair the day before you dye to remove excess oils and stuff. You can just put it together like June said and then comb most of the debris out. Then make sure you swish the hair not rub and use warm not hot water or your hair might matt up on you.

I tried it like you said except it was that honey blonde that looks red when your done. It was time to do my roots medium dark beown so I thought I would give it a whirl and I didn't want dark beown so I rinsed it a little sooner and it came out so nice. A lite sandy brown and looks like my new little grandaughters. Thanks girls.
Now I want to know if you can dye the hair on a baby or will it stain the vinyl head?

I did dye the hair on Hannah's head after I rooted it, I spread it on a baby comb and combed it up and then piled it on top after all was all done left for the lenght of time, and hung the head upside down to rince. no dye on the vynal. XXXX June.     Jefferson Donald as my avator is the one with the dyed hair.

Liz, I have llama 'hair'. I've washed it and have it all ready to use but I found the 'washing' took away the natural oils so it no longer has the shine. I know some coloring products will put some shine in. Pls let me know how yours turns out. ; ) Dolly

Well your baby looks great so i think I will give it a try. I did a BB named Paige and with the blonde hair her eyes look HUGE and unrealistic. I think with a dark blonde or light brown she will look better. Now do I upload a picture in this area of her after to show or not I don't want to mess up again.
Thanks

You have already answered my question before asking in this post. I purchased a doll and her hair is very unbecoming to her. I wanted to know if I could dye the hair already on the dolls hair without staining the vinyl head and it was answered as YES!
My question is , Would I use a permanent dye instead of the wash out one? I would think so! I am new to this and I am purchasing a little at a time to give it a try on reborning a baby! I already purchased 3 of them and I am hooked!!!

I use permanent dye and dye my hair the same colour, but I am almost 62 yrs so a change is as good as a holiday. I also use brown Eyelashes on all my dolls and reborns as it brings out their eyes and frames them. XXXX June M

I did it bit got a couple of dark spots on her hear. I used a comb and was careful. I too use dark eyelashes I agree they look better no matter what the eye color is. I will try to figure something out on her scalp.

You could try the benzoil peroxide acne cream that some use to remove ink and stuff like that from their babies. Might work.

I must hand it to you ladies, I would be really scared to dye hair "on" my bubs head! Knowing my luck, it'd run and then my little bub would be striped! YIKES!!

I used the acne stuff and it is working. I think I will do it again as I can see it faintly probably because I know it's there. My daughter came today and was looking her over but never saw it and she was checking her hair out because she knew she use to be blonde. All she said was "I like her better brown".
Thanks for the heads up.

I've been a bit busy this year with a sick husband and not been on the computer as often as I would like, also my other one died so had to wait 3 weeks for insurance to be able to buy myself a lap top. Now when he has to go to hospital, I will be able to keep up with the forum, or at least I hope. So Glad the dying after you rooted turned out nice, is that the baby in your Avator? XXXXXX June

I'm sorry to hear about your husband and God bless you both it is hard to keep up when you have to go back and forth to the hosp. I know from personal exsperience it is draining being in the hosp.
This is the baby that I dyed. She has sold. I likes her better with thr brown hair.

(your pics have been removed as per the terms of the forum. Sorry I didn't get back to your question before this. Please post links instead here. You may post actual pics in the artist showcase.)

Yes I have to admit that I love her with dark hair, she looks so sweet. I also see you have a knitted Feather and Fan Rug under her. Reminds me of my Mum she used to love knitting baby cloths with that pattern. XXXXX June.

Thank you. I haven't done too many babies that I really liked blonde hair on and the strawberry hair I jusr ended up dyeing the whole lot of it either light brown or dark brown before I used anymore of it.
The blanket was done 18 years ago this month as a baby shower gift. I myself have crocheted 2 blankets and can't remember how I did it. My Mom in law helped me and now she is 87 and too busy to crochet. God bless her. biggrin It is my favorite though.

I dont knit or crochet, but I do sew realy well. I started when I was about 8, as soon as my mum got up to do something away from the machine, I would sew doll cloths from the scraps. Now I just have to see a picture of something and can copy to size I need. XXXXX June.

The hair turned out pretty well from what I could see. Please post a few links of your babies again (see edit note in your post). I loved the little green outfit she had on :)

You always post in the topic of what you are talking about, yes. In those topic threads you will post "links" to your pic that people can click on and it takes them to wherever you have that picture (usually an online hosting place where you have uploaded those pics).
The place where you can put the actual pic is our artist showcase. Secrist has made it this way as some people have slower computers or connections and it takes up a LOT of space in the forum threads for all those pics. But links are good! That way someone can click on them or not, their choice.

Oh my gosh, what a difference the brown hair has made, I must admit it does look lovely.
I have just found a lady who sells angora kid mohair so I have brought some and I am going to try and dye a little. I have heard of the tea and coffee way of dyeing , so thought I would try that, and also buy some human hair dye and try that. I was also told to wash it first, like Pat said, as it may not take properly.

Thank you for the comment about my avatar and the funny thing is she is done after my daughter "TINA". It is a joke in my house that I sold my first born because she was the first doll I sold.
Thank You
