Chalky Baby!

Hi Everyone!

I am definitely a Newbie...I started my first doll today.  Even though I have searched the forum and read all the posts on "chalky" looking paint, that's exactly what mine looks like.

I have the petite premixed Genesis paints.  I still diluted the Flesh 08 with the odorless thinner and made the mixture VERY thin.  I did what I thought was a very transparent layer (like Stephanie says to do on the DVD) and it still came out chalky.  So I wiped everything down with the odorless thinner and tried again.  I'm getting ready to bake but the limbs and head still look thick and dull.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

If you use too much paint thinner in your paint (especially light flesh colors) it will make your doll chalky. I would start over. Remove the paint with acetone, wash the doll really well with soap & water and then repaint. Use acetone on q-tips to remove the chalky paint in crevices. Hope this helps, janet

Thanks, Janet for the suggestion.  I think that is my problem.  But I watched the Secrist video over and over and Stephanie Sullivan keeps saying to make your paint "transparent."  So I'm really confused.  I will definitely try your suggestion!smile

Even if the paint is "transparent" you can still apply too much in areas. Also watch out for getting any paint in between fingers and toes.

Your welcome! I always paint between the toes very lightly and then pounce it with the pointed end of a makeup sponge, especially if your dolls skin color is a lot different than the color between the toes. janet
