They talk about thin coats of Genesis, and colours but no one has posted the time limit on how long they should bake them for. 130 degrees, but without everyone buying a dvd that they will only look at once or twice, I think it is a cost a lot of newbies can't afford. And as there are not many teachers in close proximity here in Australia, I still believe a basic work sheet, with each kit would be a great benefit and boost your kit sales. Nore has the amount of times they should be baked been posted. Could this be considered. Or posted along with Rosie. Thank You . June M from Oz.
i agree i think the basics for that particular vinyl of that brand of doll should come with the dolls, not so much how to but what the doll can tollerate and all that jaz. i think it would be so helpfull
Yes, many times it has been stated in forum that you bake the babies at 130 (or 265 F) for 8 minutes every time you bake a layer. And some have stated that they sometimes bake them 15 or 20 times before they are done. You also bake the internal wash and the matte varnish for 10 minutes. :)
Pat, i watched the secrist dvd and there they say to bake at 265 F for 8 minutes, ive been doing that way, with good results but im just in my second doll maybe im not doing right and the paint will fade months later or something....should i go to 365 f? Thank you! :)
OOPS!!! My Bad.... :( I meant 265 F not 365. I did change it. Sorry, I didn't mean to freak you out! NO! Do not go to 365. Your Genesis will be fine and if you go higher with the temp you will melt your baby! Stay at 265 F. My mistake!!!
Okay, yes I'm a newbie and getting ready to start my 1st doll. I've read a lot all over the net and think I'm pretty prepared to start but I have a question already, lol. I've read that you can put your baby in the oven "too many times" and that can cause weak points and possibly tear. How many times is TOO many times in the oven, is there a limit on how many layers which means there would be a limit to oven visits as well?
Thanks for any help and look forwad to getting to know everyone.
I can only truly speak to Secrist and Apple Valley vinyl here as it IS a Secrist forum, but their vinyl doesn't have any problems with going into the oven multiple times. I know some newborners that have applied over 20 coats of Genesis paints and that means over 20 oven visits with no problems.! I think some of what you are seeing on the web is people who use commercial "dolls" and "reborn" them. I know for a fact that using GoofOff to remove paint from dolls is not only hazardous to your health, but it also gets into the vinyl and will leave a residue. It was not meant to be used on dolls, especially ones that are put in the oven! This can cause a breakdown of the vinyl, vinyl/silicone, or silicone over time.
That's one nice thing about Secrist/AV vinyl, no silicone, and no paint to remove with harsh chemicals!
So at least if you use Secrist vinyl doll parts you shouldn't have to worry about how many times in the oven, weak points, or tearing.
I hope this answers your questions as far as Secrist/AV vinyl parts/kits. If you are using other manufacturers dolls I suggest you contact them directly (not the sellers as they won't know for sure).
Yes ma'am, that helped a great deal. I bought Secrist because it's the one that received the most praise from folks who bought them and compared them to others so I must be headed in the right direction. It's good to know that I can apply many layers without the worry.
