Hair lines on the doll
Permalink

I haven't done any reborns yet, but have bought a kit and also some store dolls for reborning/practising and was wondering how to get the hair lines off the dolls, even my Berenguer kit had them on. Or is it possible to root the hair and not notice the hair lines? I would think this would make the doll look unprofessional. Tips please! Thanks.

I used a Berenguer for my first 2 babies, including my avatar. I did not remove the hairlines on the rooted one, and they are not noticeable. I rooted it quite thick, though. See pictures of it under 'Am I done?' in the Artist Showcase. I've heard that removing the hairlines can make the vinyl too thin for rooting and you'd have to wig it anyway. Hope this is helpful.

Hi, thanks for your message. Unfortunately I can't find the post you're referring to, could you link it for me? Thanks.

I remove the lines with a drimal (don't know if thats how its spelt) drill, it has a sanding drill bit attachment. It can take soe time to remove them all and you'll want to work outside and wear protective eyewear as little bits of vinyl sometimes flick up.

kits such an the berenguers are of such think vinyl that there really is no risk of you making it too thin by sanding the hair lines off.

you can root over the lines but you'll need to do some thick hair to cover them all and remember that the berenguer vinyl is allot harder than most kits so your rooting into this is going to be more difficult/time consuming already.

good luck

I have rooted over the hairlines and I have sanded them off, depending on the doll and how much hair I want to put on it. If you want to sand off the lines, you should use a Dremel like Naomi recommended. You can find them at Wal-mart or any hardware store. Dremels are a bit expensive, but a worthwhile investment as they have so many uses. If your local store doesn't carry the Dremel brand, the tool is called a rotary hobby tool.
