Hello, I just noticed this forum while browsing the Secrist site. I have been reborning babies for a few years, and have been using mostly my own mix of Genesis colors. However, I'm always looking for new things to try, I would like to keep my babies looking as realistic as they do now, but have a quicker, and easier method.
I'm a little confused about the pre-mixed paints. You don't use thinner with the pre-mixed? You just use them straight out of the jar? Is there a complete tutorial available for using the pre-mixed paints without thinner? Also, for people who use the sea sponge for mottling, can you use the pre-mixed paints for that? What does Secrist recommend using for the fine mottling?
I would like to try this method of not using thinner (straight out of the jar method). What should I buy, and which tutorial should I purchase? I would also be buying ethnic colors along with caucasion.
This isn't an answer, I too need to know what they mean when they say that the pre-mixed paints already have thinner added. Is there a different technique that I would need to use when I use those? Any tips you experienced reborners may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The new premixd paints go on your doll differently than your traditional heat-set paint giving you a lot more control over the intensity of color. This is why you don't need to mix it with odorless thinner. The only odorless thinner you add is the 5-dot pattern (the tutorial above talks about the 5-dot pattern) to the cosmetic sponge before you put the paint on the sponge.
And.... we have a new flesh 08 paint coming out very soon that is specifically formulated for using with natural sea sponges! It's not available yet, but stay tuned its coming soon.
A new tutorial worksheet is now included with our Beginner's Classroom DVD. That is the only tutorial currently available on how to apply all of the premixed paints. The mini-tutorial listed above gives the basic information and all the rest of the premixed colors pretty much go on the same way.
I bought a mini set of premixed paints and too did not realize I was not supposed to thin them. Doesn't seem feasable to me since they are extremely thick in the jar. Just like a thick paste and would be extremely hard to apply to the pouncing sponge. Please clarify from someone who has used them
Pre mixed flesh paints, and blushes do use paint thinner. The new blush colors that just came out, a blush, lip and creases, they are the ones that you don't mix paint thinner. All others you have to, it is too thick. I hope this helps
