You who are experienced in the sculpting world... what about the lint!!! I get small black dots, hairs and anything that is in the air.... I have white clothes on and my spot for sculpting is kept clean and can be closed when not in use.. but still I get this.... LIIIIIINT!!! And I hate it... what else can I do

As you realized i´m very new at this... I just started to sculpt miniature babies... I will be in hospital 3 days a week during this coming fall and I wanted to have something to help me make the time go faster....

This lint problem is causing me not to sculpt right now since it feels that I´m wasting my expensive clay.....

Hi Misha,..
You can clean your working space with an old piece of clay,...dab with the clay on the surface before you start to work with you polymeer clay,....than use cleaning tissues to clean your hands frequently...thats all there is,....if you store your unfinished sculpt cover it with a plastic bag.

Just as Danielle said! Make sure your hands are washed each and every time before you begin to sculpt, and dry with a light, cotton (not fluffy) tea-towel. Have baby wipes handy, they are great to wipe the surface of your table before you begin, and your hands if you have touched something while sculpting (like the mouse in my case lol) I like to rub my fingers in one ever so often while I sculpt.

Good luck!

Misha, Good luck with your next dozen sculpts, keep your hands busy and time will fly. The days you spend at the hospital will just disappear.XXX weirdfaceJune M from Oz.

Yes, a large part of keeping things off your clay is like Daan said, cover your clay unless you are working on it at the moment. You'd be surprised (or maybe not) just how much stuff collects on unbaked clay.

Also, you can use that ball of clay you just used to clean your workspace with and squish it around in your hands/fingers for a few minutes. Amazing just how much dirt and stuff comes off your hands when you think they are clean. It even gets into your fingerprints to clean the dirt hiding in there! :0

Mina... I just absolutely adore your little sculpt in your avatar!! I presume she is one that you sculpted. Is she a mini and if so, how long is she?
:)

Still having lint problems... so now I´m thinking of building some kind of incubator to sculpt in!
I was thinking of taking an old fishtank and seal it up and just put my hands into it (like they do in laboratories! ;0)
I guess that a great reason for my everlasting lint problem comes from that I have my sewing/Painting/writing/office/business in the same location!
So Last night I had a dream where I sat in my birthdaysuite in a very big fishtank sealed up and I was very happy sculpting away in there! ;0) When I told my husband of this dream he said _ why did you have to be in it is not the hands inough? ;0) why didn´t I think of that! Back to the drwingboard I guess!*L* I have to solve the visibility issue through glass!!! *LOL*

I´m home from hospital for now and there was none sculpting done at all I´m afraid! I have been waiting for supplies to arrive from Atelier Wiesje (this is the dealer for secrist stuff in the European area) I ordered them in the beginning of november and still nothing and they say that the order is dispatched... Still waiting and no stuff!!! almost 2 months of waiting (Not that happy I must say!!!)

******I whish you all a Happy New Year from Sweden

Sweden? WOW! My great grandfather was from Sweden!
As far as your order with Atelier Wiesje, if you don't get any satisfaction from them with your order, you can e-mail Secrist and maybe they can help you. It shouldn't take that long for an order to come.

I know from sewing myself that I dare not have my clay in the same room for the lint. But keep plenty of baby wipes on hand and maybe drape a cloth over your sculpts. I keep mine in a plastic bag while it's in progress. I have cats so lots of cat hair!

I do like the aquarium idea. Let us know if it works :)

Happy New Year to you also!

guess this is hijacking this topic.. but i have to tell you all that I now got in touch with Wiesje´s and they now have sent out another parcel for me! (They have their shop closed for 5 weeks and it seems that my order har slipped a bit...)
So I hope that my supplies will arrive very soon! And I guess they will! 2 shippings will not get lost... or will they? ;0)

I had an order last spring that would not be sent out to the costumer! 4 times it turned up in my mailbox the next day? How can one explain that to the costumer? Not very hapy costumer I must say but in the end she was happy for the service and information even though it was unbelivable! ( the postal offive kept reading my returnlabel as the recipient!!! So now I put a big red kross over it and the orders do not appear in my mailbox the nset day)

we will look into the fishtank projekt as soon as I get my supplies.... Maybe it is not that wacky as it might appear??? ;0) *LOL* My husband says that I already occupy a total of 1/5 of the total livingarea with my company and my hobbies so I need to look closer at this idea to get a total lintfree area for my sculpts! It is not fun spending many hours and then look closey and se all the tiny black dots!

Sweden is a great place for those who appriciate beatiful nature and silent places. I live in an area with really nice nature!

Well, I'm sure your next order will get to you this time. :o

I would love to live somewhere where I am not overloaded with vehicles and people. Somewhere that I can actually HEAR nature! I am in a large metropolitan city with the large International airport basically in my back yard (3 miles away as the crow flies!) so I really appreciate some of our trips we take (my family and I) to primative places where you get your water out of a stream!

But it's winter here, last week it was about -27 degrees F. And that's with no wind. OOOOO
so not much going out on trips now. Enjoy your nature and I will dream of it too! I would love to go to Sweden before I get too old to travel!

That's awesome! I have a friend who lives up North in the wilderness (I called it the North Pole this Christmas lol) and I visited him and his wife this summer. I heard all kinds of animals I hadn't heard in years, it was great! And they always have all kinds of animals and birds around them. I was sitting on the deck with my friend and some hummingbirds came to drink, it was amaizng!!!

Having all the cloth and what not in the same room as you are working with polymer clay is an open invitation to the lint monster. I don't know if I would go so far as to sculpt in a tank... perhaps you might want to do your sculpting in another area. Try to find a spot that has the least amount of breeze in your house. Best of luck with your sculpting.

I agree. Fabric does lend itself to fuzzies and whatnot that can get on your clay. If you must be in the same room, then keep babywipes handy (just generic ones will do for this) and be very sure to cover your work with a lightweight plastic bag. I find that I like the small garbage bags as they are light and very flexible :)
