Hi everybody, I'm just wondering: What are my options for doing the eyebrows? Anything you've done that has (or hasn't) worked for you? I'd love to see some pictures, too. My first 2 babies don't yet have eyebrows, the 2nd one hasn't been assembled yet, the 1st one has. I need to do something, as I don't want to have eyebrow-less babies forever. Any tips you might have would be greatly appreciated, too. Thank you all so much.

Heather, what paint do you use? Is the brush you use like the one Secrist calls a liner brush? Also, if you use GHSP, what paint mix do you use? Thanks.

I use Genesis paints and a liner brush. The color depends on the baby. I usually use burnt umber or a cobination of burnt umber and yellow ochre (for blonde babies).
I use the Bountiful Baby pre-mixed brow brown but add a touch of blue and (I think) burnt umber. If I just use the color straight I end up with a rust color!
GHSP are great... use a little thick medium to set the placement of the eyebrows and shape and then the smallest brush you can find and paint in the hairs. I set the eyebrows, with my heat gun, then apply the paint and dry again. I use burnt umber too... If you don't like the way the "hairs" look just wipe them off and try again. Your "guide" will have been heat set and won't be bothered by your multiple tries at painting the "hairs" on.

Hi, does anyone else do anything besides painting them with GHSP? On my 1st reborn at least (she's the one in my avatar), I can't use a paint that needs to be heatset, as she's all put together. On my next ones, I'll probably use GHSP. Thanks.

Miss Reborner, I use a long taklon brush for my eye brows, I cut it back so theres only about 7 bristles, so when you load the brush up you dont run out of paint before you finish the stroke, When painting eyebrows ,it,s called rule of thumb . Put you thumb over the eye socket or if closed eyes where they would normally be if they were open, Put a fine pencil line above where the eye starts and finishes. This should be where the eyebrow is positioned. Start with a couple of wispy short strokes and as the hands of a clock tick down lay your strokes over to give a natural look. I often use two different colours. Start the second colour near the root of the first colour and lay it towards the top second stroke. Also with the one you have put together,I personally would take the head off because you will have better control over the strokes, then use a hairdrier, or heatgun to set the paint. The pencil will rub off after it,s set.June M from Oz.
Thank you. You mentioned using a hairdryer to dry the paint. Can you use that instead of a heatgun? Thanks again.

I know of a few people teaching with folk art paint and if this one is going to be yours I,m sure there is a medium that you could mix with it for it to be permanent. Some of the stores over here , Spotlight tought half dolls with it, so I don,t think it would matter if you only did eyebrows, and didn,t make it a habit.June M from Oz.

Hello TEA, I was thinking that you may be able to use water colour pencils but didn,t know how they would work on the vynal, thanks for putting that in your post, I know at the Winter Wonderland Doll Show in Brisbane that I attended for two days and had stall, that someone told me that they were doing one with the acrylic folk art paints, I did think it a bit off at the time but if it works just to repair something why not. Personally I,m going to take the heads off all my reborns, because I was told they didn,t need them when I was starting out. The one I made for lady on my avaitor has eyebrows, even though it,s not a good pic to show them.June M from Oz.

Have any of you used Prismacolor pencils? I have those already, which makes it easier. Can I rub them off easily right after I do them, since I most likely won't get them right the first time? And will they eventually become permanent? Thanks for all the helpful tips.

Yes, you can use the Prismacolors. If you wipe it off right away (or shortly thereafter for booboos). If you let it set for a few days it is supposed to become permanent by soaking into the vinyl.
Otherwise you can always try rooting them with a find needle, but be sure of the direction you are rooting, the way the hair will lay, and tweeze out any extra hairs.
I bought a baby once that needed a rescue from a reborning attempt gone awry. She had eyebrows done with prismacolor and they wiped off with water. But maybe they hadn't set long enough.
Hi everyone, Haven,t been on line much this last couple of days , as I ,ve been trying to put that writuing under my name,in pink and blue, neerly went nuts because it wouldn,t go where I wanted it to. Now It,s there. Yes my aviator baby is Hannah reborn as Jack, I copied the little picture off the net, thats pinned onto him, thats the one I said She loved. Today, I,ve been at the house lifting sheets oftin, timber and broken glass, I,ll Get back on line after dinner. Keep up the good work everyone.June M from Oz
So the Prismacolor pencils might not be permanent? I did notice that Stephanie Sullivan of Hunnybuns Nursery sells them for this purpose. Does anyone know if watercolor pencil will become permanent? I did try those, but they kept wiping off. I didn't wait very long, though, so that might be why. Thanks.

Okay, well here's what I did. I used watercolor pencil on both babies, and after many, many tries, I finally got them to a place that pleased me. I haven't tried wetting them yet, I want to make sure I wait a good long time for them to set. Thank you all for the helpful tips, and I will let you know when I check to see if they're permanent.

I used the bloomers n bows practice pen then go over them (once I like the way they look) if you don't like them , it wipes right off and you can start over, then I go over them with water color pencils. I take a dampen napkin and lightly wipe over my finished brows for the look of just a hint of baby brows. Works great for me.
I like the GHSP better because I can just hit it with my heatgun and they're done. I also have experience with the liner brush and can do a good job with that.
