genesis glazing gel not working ??

Hi all,
sorry to *hog* the forum but i forgot to ask i bought some genesis glazing gel (the heatset one, not the air dry gloss) now is this the one thats suppose to give some shine to nails and lips etc.. ???
well i used it on my first reborns lips/nails and i applied it twice (heat-setting each time) but when my baby came out of the oven (no pun intended here lolol) the glazing gel did absolutely nothing, it was like i hadn't applied anything at all.....
Please forgive me if the glazing gel is not for this purpose but that is what i was told to use.... ??? Thank you again for putting up with me and my many questions in advance :o)

Hi Leah,
with the Aileens paper glaze is that very shiny, i tend to love that wet look !!! do you just apply it with a brush and then let it air dry ??? if you apply with a paintbrush does it have to be a seperate one from your painting ones ?? how long does it take to dry ?? thanks for your suggestion, **Hugz** Kaz.

I like the glazing gel, but you do have to apply it straight (no thinner) for it to do anything. It's not very shiny, but neither are most babies.
When I want a wet look, I use an acrylic glaze, but I do dilute it with water.

Hi Heather, i did apply the glazing gel straight (twice) but you couldnt even tell one little bit... i wasnt expecting heaps of gloss or shine but to not make a difference at all, I was wondering why ?!? ( it came with a bad set of dry / crumbly GHSpaints too & the paints wouldnt even go uncrumbly when grinded / blended with thinner !!!) could be just a bad batch?!?

yes hun that is the shinny one I apply it with my clean brushes to the lips and nails however when i do the eyes I pour it in the sockets and i use a brush as well as a toothpick to kinda steer it outward this prevents bubbles forming (make sure you watch that you dont get brush lines showing) thats how i get the teary eyes i also put a little with a very fine brush on the tips of the eye lids (closest to the eyes) and a very fine line on the bottom. here is a secrist tutorial on how to do this too you may find this helpful (((hugs)))

yes it is airdry i have a rule when i glue or use varnishes etc i let them sit overnight im sure aileens is probably dry way before that but i always do my 24 hours i wouldnt suggest a sponge (although ive never tried it) when you are using your brush just use it lightly and you should be fine aileens is really easy to work with the tutorial will help there too ((hugs))

I had a look at the example of the glaze on your babies lips and i am happy with the effects of it, it seems that one coat would be what i would aim for, some shine and wetness but still really natural looking, i really appreciate that you have gone above and beyond to help me Leah :o)
ps ~ I love the sparse hair look you create- where the hair sits against the head just like it should - very natural, i dont like when reborns that have too long, thick hair that sticks up everywhere ;)
