Hi there fellow reborners. i am new to reborning and have started with an alina kit by linde scherer. I am having trouble painting my doll, there seems to be areas of the face limbs etc where the paint is not adhering to the vinyl, even though i am baking at the 130 degrees celcius for the 8 mins and even if i add more layers after baking the same spot still shows through, i am using archival oils odourless solvent (artist grade) ummmm if any one could help that would be great, also with the skin tone layer i am having trouble too with chalkiness even with this solvent and even if i do it thinly, whats the best flesh tone of GHSP to use for your main skin tone ??? i am looking into J.Holpers (excellence in reborning) way of painting where she uses alot of colours for this ??? thanks for your help, in advance :o)

I had problem with GHSP sticking after using goof-off. As best as any one can figure out it is because I washed the limb with palmolive and it must have some kind of conditioner in it. When I washed with regular hand soap, no problems. You might try using a brush to get into the crevices.
There is a "thinning medium" in the Secrist range. It comes in a jar, and is actually "thickish", a bit like Vaseline in consistency. However, it DOES thin the density of the colour, does NOT leave a chalkiness, and you can cover your pattette (overnight) and next day is will still be pliable enough to paint with - unlike odourless thinners (which evaporate.
I DO, however, use odourless thinners in the initial stages, for washes, viens - but I use what I call the "thick thinners" (thinning medium) at later painting stages.
I don't know about paint not adhering to the vinyl, but I think the answer above will indeed help you.
I just checked where you were from - and found out it is Tasmania - I thought it had to be either Australia or New Zealand (I'm in New Zealand). my first "bake" was very nearly a disaster - because I couldn't convert 265 F into Celsius. Later found out it converted to 130 Celsius (the giveaway to your possible location). I was baking WAY too hot! Melted a cheap toy doll to start off with!
thank you all so much for your help... there seems to be alot of answers here from experienced reborners and i am grateful ;) i will try the genesis thinning medium and was wondering how you get that>? i am in tas, australia and cant seem to find it on any of our aus, reborn supply websites ??? as for the paint mixing when you say how thick the paint to be how thick would you say eg) tip of the brush coated in paint well of thinner??? hope this kinda makes some sense lolol.... and my days of reborning have just begun..... oh dear lol!!! thanks in advance :o)

I am in launceston Tasmania and you can buy directly from a genisis supplier on the main land they will ship to you just do a internet search I think they maybe in WA I have spoken to the supplier she is very helpful.
I do want to let you all know that Goof-Off does leave a residual film on top of the vinyl and it will also penetrate the vinyl. Even if you do the hot sudsy bath, there will be some left.
If you have problems finding the thinning medium in your area (if you don't want to order from America) http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/32445 4 ounces, http://www.secristdolls.com/inc/sdetail/22576 1 ounce, we do have dealers in Australia (not quite sure where bouts) and here is the link: http://www.collectablekids.com.au
