Yes, it will get darker.... but not necessarily in the way that you mean...  because it is translucent it creates a sense of depth to your skin.  Also, because it is applied with a brush or a sponge it will be splotchy...  (as if I could spell) and that also gives the skin additional demension.  Each layer of paint is very thin, so you won't be adding a lot of color at once.  Give it a shot... you'll like it!!

Also you may or may not have noticed, but often times the paints cook a little lighter - esp with tones that are pail.

As layers build on one another, they don't become "darker" exactly - rather they become more colour "intense".
